Butia Hybrid #1 Flowers: This one produces flowers petals in pink and yellow (note in pic #4 the 6 petal flowers)This palm has not produced seed.

Butia hybrid #2 (2007) seed sprouted in 2000. This palm sets seed and I do have offspring from this palm (see post #21,#39,#44 and#55 in this thread) . Here is a picture of seed produced by this palm.Picture #3 taken 2005.

This is a picture of Hybrid #4 seed sprouted fall 1996. (planted in ground 04/2008)

Pictures of Hybrid #3 seed sprouted 2001, nice color in spath and brown velvet on outside of spath. This one has set a few seed with solid wood.

This is a pic of the mother of the Hybrids and its flowers. Flowering season for it is June - Aug with only 4 flower spathes per year.

Steve, They are Butia x Syagrus romanzoffiana. I have had suggestions that the mother palm (Butia) may have Jubaea in its line (extra stamens are found on its flowers and the leaflets have hooks on the ends) I may never know. Scott

Michael, The "lightening bolt" look seems to pass on to the offspring as well. The 2 Mule palms I have fom this Butia also throw the look ,but not as pronounced. I gave a Butia offspring to a friend and it has the same "lightening bolt" look as the mother palm, and after 9 years it is 2 ft tall to top of its leaves . Michael if you are ever in the Tampa area stop on in. Scott

And now the pictures of the offspring palm raised from Butiagrus pictured in post #4 above. This palm is 18 months from seed. Butiagrus palms can produce seed that can sprout. This palm will be relocated to new location this summer.

Oh, there doing well. There was a little burning around the edges do to being bare root, but I think they'll make it.

Now pictures of Bubutiagrus (Butia x Butiagrus) summer 2007 germinated. The look is not what I expected. Very glossy green leaves,very little to almost no stem fibers and so far leaves have windows ( on 3 non strap leaves ) I think I will do this cross again. I am shocked by the look so far. I used another Butia than the one pictured in post #8 & #9 above.

Here is a picture of one of my former Butiagrus that looks almost like a Coconut palm. This was my favorite looking Butiagrus. I still hope to produce one like it again someday.

Amazing photo's of very special hybrids! Especially the Bubutyagrus could be a more cold hardy variety/hybrid of a tropical looking palm. I really envy you and your palms. Also a big compliment to all the work you are doing in creating these palms.
