Haven't posted in awhile...still here, recovering from Irma. River breeched our seawall and were about 6' into the garden with brachish water. Surprisingly faired well here. Low of 48F a few mornings back.
Happy Holidays everyone!
I drive past this monster frequently admiring the shape, quality, color, and of course the size. Use the car in the background for scale. It's about 12' x 10' wide.
I'm getting my shovel.
Just a few shots of a few wet crotons after a quick moving shower. We've been getting a lot of rain especially in the morning hours moving off of the ocean (1 mile away). Keeps things looking fairly good!
Some of these I have names for, some I have no idea, and some are hybrid seedlings I'm...
A few boys and a few girls posing this afternoon. Getting hotter, with no rain in sight.
The girls:
Mona Lisa, Thea, Eleanor Roosevelt, Diane, Eleanor Fischer, Wilma, and Cover Girl
I haven't posted in quite awhile, so thought I'd photo just a few of what is growing in the backyard jungle. I'm running out of sun!! If there are some that I've misidentified, please make the correction.;)
1. Revelation
2. Helen Edge
3. What I've been calling "Easter"
4. Unknown seedling...
This is a hybrid croton seedling I have been nuturing along. It reminds me of fall, so I am going to attempt to name this "Autumn." I love the fall like colors. :o
I thought I would post a few photos of my top few crotons in my collection. Some are more unusual, some are not. Some happen to be growing in their favorite conditions with light, wind protection, etc. Some of these are also my favorites.
1 is Helen Edge. Its growing in a container and only...
Here's few shots of what is happening in the front garden on this great fall day.
1. Yellow Petra
2. Thea
3. Princess Eugenia
4. Front garden pathway
5. Eleanor Fisher?
6. Freckles
7. Cover Girl
8. Thai cultivar
I found this very mature croton aside a building that was perhaps built in the 1950s. It's on the northside, so never in direct sun. By the thickness of the trunk, I would suspect it was either original or planted sometime in the 1960's.
Can anyone ID it?
This is the first infestation of spiral whitefly I have seen on my crotons....ever. I am battling it on virtually every palm in my collection, and now it's jumping to crotons. I venture to say, it will be on every broad leafed plant in time. My neighbor has seen it on his heliconia, cordyline...
:D
