The Colors of Cordylines (The Ti Plant)

OK Angela, here's some germinated Ti pics. The first two pics are from the mother plants which are at Jerry Andersen's place in Leilani Estates on the Big Island.

    The Lowland Ficus dammaropsis

More of the Ficus. Don't let the dry surroundings fool you. It's kept nice and wet and as you can see it's heavily mulched. I can run a hose at full blast and it takes 5 minutes to fill up the basin. It's almost time to remove the rabbit cage. They haven't touched this plant even though the...

    The Lowland Ficus dammaropsis

Ok here's some pics from today. You can see the D. leptocheilos coming along nicely in the background. I think they're ready for butter and jam.

    Lamium

Anyone growing Lamium? I got a small plant, pictured below, a few years ago and it's a beauty of a groundcover. This one is Lamium maculatum I think. The light colors really contrast well and the little purple flowers mix it up a bit too.

Plant idea needed...help me out ya'll

Oh, man that's some cool plantage Kim! I like the Blue Agave idea too Scott, I'll definitely do that. Those pics make we wonder why I'd want to stick to one species lining the road? I'll just find everything that fits the requirements as stated above and plant them in natural looking groups...

Plant idea needed...help me out ya'll

I'd like to pick your brains a bit. I've got a long switchback road/trail that goes down my property and I'd like to line it with some sort of plant or plants. Here's the catch and requirements. It's gotta be able to take full sun, use no water once established (we get about 10" annually...

    Philodendron gigas

No wonder you're growing it; it flowers money.

    The Lowland Ficus dammaropsis

I have the one with red veins and throws the orangey colored new leaf. It's in full all day sun here in SoCal and shows a wrinkly leaf. But Paul has one from the same batch in more shade and the leaf is flatter and glossier. One thing I've noticed about these is that you must pot them up...

    Carpoxylon macrospermum

Re: C. macrospermum Yeah, no grower skills here, just a primo spot on the primo lot. The summer heat won't be a problem, but yes, I have a feeling we're in for some serious sun scorching. But Al's in Kona is in some serious all day full sun too so I think with some time and established root...

CPS --- Collapsing Petiole Syndrome in Palms

Wierd that your otherwise heathy palms are doing this. I have a Howea forsteriana in a pot that kept doing this. It was extremely rootbound and would dry out way too much. I just assumed that this was the problem and potted it up which also keeps it from drying out. It's not had another...

    Carpoxylon macrospermum

Re: C. macrospermum Winter '07 - '08. Carpoxylon survived, in ground, over winter, with no protection in SoCals long cool winter. Lowest extreme temps were 38F & 39F on a couple of nights with many nights at low 40'sF. It's still acclimating to sun so older leaves are somewhat crispy, but I...
