I thought I would organize the various photos I have taken over the years! This one I bought as "electra." The second pic is electra with cameroon.

You know what? I was suspecting the same thing. We don't get full on sun very often. We're almost in the cloud forest! (we're at around 2100ft) I know we definitely don't get as hot as you do in FL. Maybe the difference in coloration is a result of the cooler temps? Or maybe just the camera, computer screen or browser!!!
Are there any others you can ID??:D

Why do they call it big red when it is actually more of a deep fuchsia? In person, ours have edges that are a dark pink/fuchsia. I'm a stickler for colors because I am an artist and artists/painters have a whole vocabulary of color... when someone says burnt umber, napthol crimson or cadmium red it refers to an exact specific color LOL!

Big Red taken today after the rain.

Angela, I agree that the names and colors do not often match in the Ti world. Red Sister is another good example. I see pink/fuchia on a purplebrown leaf, but yet it is named Red Sister. It is like all the dark purple leaf Ti with black in the names.

Angela, Maybe its the soil, sun, sealevel, temps or some other factors but the colors always seem to be more outstanding on your plants. Example My Miss Andrea/yours...

Scott, The reason I asked is as follows, taken from Frank Brown's "The Cordyline" book.

"Cordylines, like crotons, have a seaon in which the color becomes deeper, richer, and more resplendent. This starts to happen at the end of the rainy season and intensifies through the dry months of October to March. Some fanciers believe enhancement of color is caused by cooler weather, and this may very well be a factor, but color also intensifies in tropical regions where there is little or no seasonal change in temperature."

Your evening temps this time of year are about the same as our daytime temps, with our evenings around 60-65 now.

Angela,

Thanks for starting this topic and all your beautiful pictures. After looking at all these, I was reminded why I used to grow so many of them and collect as many as I could. At one time, I had right at 100 varieties. But after a few years, I realized that landscapers were only buying the same 10 or 12 ones. That's when I started switching over to crotons and besides, crotons grow better in the landscape than Ti plants. It was nice to see some of the old names of ones I once grew.

And of course, your Miss Andrea looked great and put a big smile on my face. I actually called Andrea over to look at your thread. Thanks again!!

Jeff

Jeff, it's one thing to have a plant named after you, but quite another to have what has it be one of the prettiest and most vigorous of the genus - kinda like the real Andrea. :)
