Looks very similar to the pictures of a plant being called herringbone a couple of months back. Not a plant I am familiar with.

Some Advice from Those Lucky Few

Only advice i would give you, is resist the urge to cut it for a while. Let it grow and get a full head of steam. Cutting small plants can really set them back.

    wiki suggestion

That's an interesting idea. Only problem is that when plants are young or out of color there is simply no way to ID them. You just have to grow stuff out. Yikes.

    What to do about ants?

There are two different Amdro for different types of ants. And no other product other than brand name Amdro will give you the same result.

I've been a commercial grower for 15 years, and a hobbyist for 25. The only pest control I've ever owned is Amdro and bug -...

    What to do about ants?

If you spray anything, Amdro can't work. Amdro only kills ants. You are relying on natural predators to kill the scale, once the ants are gone. Spraying wipes those predators out.

Dean, ramsayi on the left, elegans (peltata 'sumawongii') on the right. George really has done a great job with those plants. Pretty sure those were Hawaiian babies from marcus. Notice the flowering satakentia on the right. George is not playing around.

No photoshop, just george in his back yard this morning. The licualas look big because george is a tiny little fellow. He's so tiny, he has to drive a dodge, because his little feet can't reach the pedals in a ford.

Phil, you are usually crystal clear, but I'm beyond confused. Forget everything else for a minute. My question was based on the pic moose posted as red...

    Black leaves with pink spots…

The top one is called laffeyette. Comes from the palmetto/Bradenton area. Sort of like a blacked out stoplight but the flush can be insane.
