Rudy Bachman...One of the Best

I consider Rudy Bachman to be one of the best all round crotons that hold up well in the landscape. With it's large size of leaves and brillant colors, IMO, it's one of the finest cultivars that has ever come along. Many years ago, I was taken down by a friend to North Miami and shown where the the old Bachman's house was. We were able to get lots of cuttings from the original hedge line of this famous croton and these in my yard are from these original Bachman's plants.

Jeff - you will get no argument from me. It is definitely one of my favorites. Nice to know that the one I got from you has such a fine pure lineage.

What are the lighting conditions for those fine looking plants? Mine are scraggly in comparison, and I suspect it is due to low light.

I agree with Phil, I have 3 in the ground and there's more gray wood than leaves on all of them. Have admit, though, the large colorful leaves are worth the long legs!

Really no secrets. Pretty much what most crotons want, strong filter light. I have noticed before, if their getting several hours of direct sunlight, the leaves will definitely bleach out alot of their nice colors.

Jeff, something about that perfect Hawaiian weather but that doesn't seem to happen out there. Crotons planted in full sun look great. It must be the over-abundant rainfall.

Also the volcanic soil, excellent drainage.
