Petra in Pennsylvania

I had the pleasure and privilege to visit Longwood Gardens today. I was very pleasantly surprised to see the tropical plantings at the entrance. This place is really quite amazing. I am thrilled to have finally gotten the opportunity to visit.

Hey, show us more shots of Longwood Gardens, Tim. Love that Black Magic with the Petra and the chartreuse trailing pretty. Gotta keep that in mind.

I grew up going to Longwood before moving to Florida in the early 80's.

I only lived about 30 minutes from there.I think I posted some of these before from my last visit a few years ago, but here are a few.

These pictures don't do any justice for this botanical wonderland. Pierre du Pont was a plant collecting freak with extremely deep pockets. i would say that he was the Fairchild of the north.

Did you notice what, if any, kind of ID signs they had by plants - indoor and out?
Signage is a BIG problem at most botanical gardens - esp since some visitors think they make nice souvenirs.

Thanks, Randy and Tim. Beautful place. I definitely need to try to get there sometime. That is one monster rhipsalis (?). Gotta love those greenhouses.

Thanks for sharing your trip with us! Kind of funny how they use the crotons and other plants outside as annuals. I just came back from the island of St Martin down in the Caribbean and saw nothing much in the way of crotons. Some Petras that were planted in full sun and of course looked horrible.
