Jeff the only time you have visited Moose Land was April 2010. I gave you an orchid cutting from a specimen Vanda. Every time mine blooms, I mean to send you a picture so you will know what it will look like. Well here it is: It is not a hybrid but a species. It has a soft and pleasant aroma when in bloom. It has been growing on this tree for 16 years.

It was growing on palm tree that died. The guy wanted me to take out the palm. I told him to remove the orchid. After about 6 months, the palm began to collaspe. He still hadn't removed the orchid so home it went with me after I removed the palm. In hind sight, I should have removed the palm right away. It was a very stinky job, my hands smelled horrible for two days. I knew the lady who originally attached it to the palm. I have not seen her in many a year.

Well, at least you can show Andrea what the orchid looks like now.

Yes - a big one that should bloom within a year if nutured.

You saw the orchid growing the last time you were here just recently I think. It's real happy on the the trunk of a Neoveitchia palm. But has yet to flower....still waiting for that orgasmic moment! Lol!

It has been asked many times, when will an orchid bloom? The truth is "when it wants too". All you can do is try to give induce blooming with water soluble fertilizer.

The first two photos are of a cutting from same orchid established on an oak tree. Look at the healthy roots. It is fed water soluble fertilizer and has not bloomed for me. There are two other vandaceous orchids in the same tree that have bloomed, so I do not believe it is a light exposure issue.

The last two photos are of another cutting of the same orchid established on another oak tree about 15 ft. away. It bloomed last year and I found this budding this morning. It gets the same feeding schedule as the other.

Yet another cutting was given to a neighbor which is attached to an avocado tree in some pretty heavy shade. I know this cutting has not been fertilized, but bloomed a month ago.

Go figure.
