I keep thinking about this plant we saw at the nursery. I'm starting to really believe it could be Dr. Alex. Go buy it !!!!!:)

I have my name on the only two airlayers of it, owner wont sell the plant in the pot.
Moose, a trade is always welcome for the second one.

According to Dr. Brown's old book, the real name is spelled Dr. Alix.

Toby, stop by next time you're in town. I've got a few air layers here myself.

I think this might be a Dr. Alix - I found it the other day at Lowes in a 4" pot from Hermann Engelmann Greenhouses....

Looking closer at Dr. Alix I now see that it has some long lobes near the base of the leaf....

I see the wiki here uses "Reliance" rather than "Reliant" - anyone know which is the correct name?

Reliance was the earliest name. Mis-spellings are common, e.g., Corot (correct name), Carot, Carrot especially if phonetic spellings are used.

Thanks - I'm trying to use the earliest names for my crotons...
I want to compile a list of names with dates and origins where possible, as well as parentage when known, though very little info seems to be available for crotons in general...
I'm saving what info there was on the old crotonmania site so it is not lost - for others who also missed seeing that site, much of the old info can be found through the Internet Archive's waybackmachine:
