Very nice Scott! I grow several myself. Unfortunately, mine are all starting to get rust now. Sure sign that fall is right around the corner.

Bren, Try using the Bayer all-in-one systemic for control of the rust, it works for me.

Here is another fancy leaf Canna in flower.

Okay here's ours.... it's the same one called Tropicana canna. The first one shows a new and old leaf.

I'm curious fellow Floridians, does your cannas go into a dormant stage or grow all year round? In San Diego I would grow them and they would look great during the summer and then look like crap the rest of the year.
Here's the only other one I have... so far.

Angela, I am thinking that they are around all year, unless the frost hits them.

Scott,
The rust is airborne and with all the plumerias around here, I'd be spraying weekly. Have you tried growing them in water yet?

Mine start to go down this time of year. They just get ratty looking but will grow. Aphids, rust, fall winds etc take their toll. I usually mow them down and let them come back in spring when the foliage looks better.

Years ago I was enamoured with Canna (early 1990's). I planted a bunch of different varieties just to experience that every leaf chewing critter in South Florida loved Canna more than I. Watching all the leaves get chewed to hell, they became unsightly I let them decline. The thought of replacing them was abandoned.

About three years ago, my wife was gifted a green and yellow striped Canna. I felt obligated to plant it and expected to see my previous results. Suprisingly the critters have not attacked it. It has even maintained year round foilage. The Moose Land has not had any frost the last two winters, but has experienced unusual winter lows like everyone else. After the first cold front, it just hangs in a stasis until warmer weather returns in late March.

Being a severe crotonhead, I have no more plans for more Canna. I'd rather plant another croton cultivar. They are definitely great looking plants but not my preference due to the space limits in Moose Land.

Bren, I have a tall yellow and a coral dwarf that grow in the shallow water a the lake edge.
