So Matty,

Is this just a D. baronii? It is one of those I believe that Jungle Music offered as D. ambo. From what I remember, most D. baronii had lost most of the red at this stage. What is your professional opinion?

Anyone else have an opinion?

That does look like the clumper that came in as Dypsis ambositrae. It loves full, all day sun, even from a 1 gallon size plant. It's the fastest clumping Dypsis you can grow, by far! It will loose it's color and will have white powdery crownshafts with the powder stopping at the bottom of the crownshaft, with smooth olive green trunks with internodes so far apart it basically looks like bamboo. Crazy fast! Set it out in sun now and it'll be 10 feet tall in 3 years. I'll get a pic of mine tonight. Here's the before pic of it planted as a 1 gallon plant exactly 3 years ago.

So what are you calling it? And don't say a Moderate Clumping Dypsis from the High Plateau.

For lack of a better way to accurately describe it I'm calling it the clumping palm that came in as Ambositrae which obviously isn't. Rolls off the tongue.

Here's some pics of the ones I'm growing. The first one I planted performed so well I put another one in the ground last Summer. This plant was in a 6" pot (1/2 gallon) and I put it out in full sun in Summer. It's all aclimated now and will really start to take off.

Here's something to consider though. Other people have mentioned clumping Dypsis that they purchased as Dypsis amobsitrae that aren't this palm. The ones that turned out like this are the ones from Jungle Music's stock. Palm Mountain, Kevin Weaver, etc. stock seem to be different. So I suspect that the seed dealers were 'cutting' their supposedly Dypsis ambo seed, for a while, with some other stuff they found since Dypsis ambositrae is harder to find. Just a theory.

Yes, I'm aware of that "other" Ambo. I believe those are the palms that are in one of the pics in the Marcus Mini Tour thread.

But your palm looks great. I guess I'll put mine in the place where I ripped out that D. lutescens.

I really like the contrast between the white crownshafts and the smooth green trunks on this one. Usually the powder extends down the trunk but for some reason on this species it dosen't.
