You guys are posting so many nice photos, and IDing so many of them as well.

Have you all seen the Croton Encyclopedia? Some of you (or all of you) should learn how to take the best of these photos with the proper IDs, and place them into the Encyclopedia, along with any information that is shared here.

If everyone did even one or two a week, you guys would soon have an unsurpassed reference with great photos - it would be useful for everyone around the world. In turn, you would begin to meet and communicate with Croton lovers in some of the more exotic places around the world as they began to use the Encyclopedia. Think of the new varieties you could exchange.

Re: Calling All CrotonHeads

Hi,

I know I am going to embarrass myself , but I can`t find the croton gallery / encyclopedia here on the website.

I appreciate it when you guy post pictures. This is something I need to learn to do.

Also ,thanks for answering my questions.

Re: Calling All CrotonHeads

Top right of the screen - click on [WIKI]
Next screen - scroll down until you see The Croton Society - click there
Next screen - click the banner
Next screen - scroll down to the encyclopedia

We really need a one-click link right here.

Re: Calling All CrotonHeads

Go to the "Navigation Bar" (Green Bar Above) and click on "Quick Links"

You will see the CROTON SOCIETY link at the bottom. Click on it and you will be taken to the main Croton Society Page on the Palmpedia Wiki. You will find information about the Croton Society meetings, membership, etc. - along with the link to the Croton Encyclopedia. I could make another link directly to the Croton Encyclopedia is desired.

If you haven't explored the Wiki, you are missing out on a lot of palm/plant info as well - Slideshows, Virtual Reality Tours, Online Magazine, Gardens, etc.

Re: Calling All CrotonHeads

I'm bumping this in hopes again of prompting a few of you Croton Heads to get all these great photos and IDs into the Croton Encyclopedia. With just the photos you have already posted, there would be hundreds of cool crotons indexed for easy reference.

I am more than willing to help, but some of you with more knowledge of leaf shapes and IDs need to back me up. If a few of you would be willing to tackle only 2 or 3 a day (10 MINS), we would have them all catalogued in less than a month. And then we could continue adding to them.

OK,

I'm curious as to why no one is interested in organizing and indexing any of these great photos and IDs in the Croton Encyclopedia? It has to be one of the following reasons:

1) You don't know how to do it.
2) Don't want to know how, cuz you don't have the time.
3) Or don't feel you have the knowledge to ID and get things right.

What do you think is the main reason, or is it just all of the above - or is it that no one thinks having an up to date listing of correctly named crotons with photos and cultural info available at your finger tips would be worth the trouble?

OK Dean...
RE: Reasons
1) Yes, I am sure many of us don't know how to do it.

2) I and many others are pressed for time but still want to contribute. If someone doesn't want to learn and help; so be it..

3) Yes, many of us know, how much we don't know.

4) I think many of us keep thinking we can get a better picture. Soooo, let me ask. If we go ahead and post, can the pictures be upgraded? To upgrade, would it be hurting someone else's feelings? Could we perhaps have multiple pictures? Actually, that should be advantageous.

5) Having an up to date Croton Encyclopedia would be wonderful beyond words!

Check out the Palm Encyclopedia. It's in the same general format as the start of the Croton Encyclopedia. HERE Some species have one pic. Some have dozens. Some species pages are done, some are half done. And some only have one pic, waiting for more pics and some comments.

The wiki is a wonderful resource. There are no rules really. You can do what you want. Add photos, replace photos, add text, edit text. It is a constantly changing, and hopefully improving resource. And with several people contributing, it will find it's own personality and format. A few of you have already added some stuff, but then stopped.

There can be links from individual varieties to overall pics of members gardens. It would be nice to have a section of just "Crotons In The Landscape," and specific variety's pages could be linked to see that variety in the landscape. There is a lot that could be done. It's not that much work if a few people are contributing. If we had 3 or 4 people willing to do 1 or 2 a day, there would be 100-200 pages created in only one month - and that could be done in 5 mins/day.

I am willing to help, and to get the ball rolling, but if you check out the Palm Encyclopedia, and some of the other garden features I'm working on, you will realize why I can't do all the heavy listing - although I would if I could.

1 or 2 people willing to do the actual pages, choosing and posting the photos, and 1 or 2 people to review the naming and IDs, and I would help guide them at the beginning to get a system down. That's all it would take.
