So what would you think a Syagrus rom X Parajubaea sunkah would look like?

I've got some of this seed sowing for about a month now. I am excited about this cross. Does anyone have a guess at what it might look like when it's all grown up? Cold tolerance potential stretches the boundaries further and further north.....which is appreciated in the frozen tundra of...

    saving croton pollen

In saving palm pollen for hybridizing purposes, all guidance I've been given is to avoid plastic baggies. Paper bags are preferred and keep pollen alive while ensuring that all the male flowers open and release their pollen. Keep the male flowers in high heat and permit them to fully open...

The other shoe drops next week (in Central Florida at least)

Winter Haven, FL supposed to see lows of 39, 32, & 39 on the 2nd, 3rd & 4th, respectively. Fortunately, the coolest high is 56 on the 3rd and we rebound into the 60s on the 4th and 70s by late next week. Let's hope this is the only one of these this winter. Happy New Year Everyone, Rich

    this winters weather

Ultimate low of 39F this morning up in the frozen tundra. No frost evident as of sunrise. I hope that Ray's prediction above of 39F in Tampa Tuesday is way off. TWC is showing 38F for Winter Haven on Monday 1/2/12. Hope everyone is well and Happy New Year (hopefully a warm one!) Rich

    M & M - today's acquisitions

Guilty Ray. And Happy Holidays to you too! There are quite a few left. I'm hoping that they don't have a reason to make it to the mark down rack b/c of cold. If they do, you can imagine who's gonna snipe them off that rack! Hope all is well and looking forward to the next time! Rich

    M & M - today's acquisitions

very nice Scott. I figure mine will drop that low once (and I'm hoping it doesn't) we have our first frost/freeze. I'm glad one of the two big boxes still marks down their plants instead of charging them back to the vendors/wholesalers. Good to hear from you Scott. Hope all is well and...

Hey Dean I was in the Classified section and tried to click on Scott (McIntosh's) ad for the Arenga Engleri seed. When I clicked on the the "Buy It" button - it took me back to the home page of Palmpedia. I have to admit - I am notorious for not reading directions - but even when I went...

Very nicely done Erik. Thanks again to Scott for detailing the technique and to you Erik - for all the pictorials on the results. That's quite and operation you have got there. I've got a Butia x S. coronata that's 4.5 years old that just went in the ground last week. It was a gift from a...

    The making of a Butiagrus

Looking good Scott  Do you have any favorite technique for removing the seed coats prior to germinating? Looks like I'm a good 2-3 weeks behind you in the process - but will have oodles and oodles of ripening seed. Thanks, Rich

    The making of a Butiagrus

Scott, Any chance of posting a pic of the difference between the two cross-sections (solid wood vs. endosperm)? Would really appreciate it. How's the B x A seed set coming along? Thanks, Rich
