If anybody in this discussion is still living;) I was given these two. One is Ficus auriculata and the other is one of the Ficus dammaropsis. Its got the red vein above and is all green veined below if that helps.

    Petra

2018..I tried Petra again...its done 2 summers and 2 winters outdoors..going on its third summer. That's the good new. The bad news is if I don't put it in a small greenhouse this winter of 2020- 2021..its going to die. July and its barely leafed out. Its the very definition of marginal in the...

    Variegated Monstera deliciosa/

Hadn't checked in on the boards in months..covid just threw me and society way off. Looking fantastic mward. Yes,a bigger plant than M.borsigiana and probably almost impossible to get a yellow variegated M.deliciosa. One thing I would advise...fertilize! Monsteras love it and react fast. Even...

Potted Petra survives SF bay area winter and two summers so far..

It and one other were looking good on my porch until March..then the wife for some reason "watered" them with gray water she had in a pail..it killed a Angel wing type that was in perfect condition and partially defoliated Petra. Petra I think got less of that polluted water. Still,it after...

    Hyophorbe indica 'Red Form'

That sounds more likely. Still have all three going and outdoors for the summer. I don't see them as outdoor plants in winter ever here.

June leaves are largest ever. So,maximum size is still a question. When this vine gets older then I can say what they can do.

Mike, somebody has asked me to ask you if you are willing to make a trade or sell a cutting of your Monstera?

    Variegated Monstera deliciosa/

I asked because somebody in internet world is dying to get a cutting of your plant! I get it. They are like the polar opposite of Pothos..a vine you can get at any HD. Thanks,And may yours climb so tall, nobody could ever reach it! Or razor wire..

    Variegated Monstera deliciosa/

Oh man, that really looks good. Where did you get that? btw- I find that M.borsigiana HATES direct sun in California. The white portions burn. Since re adjusting the main stem to the shady side of the Ash tree trunk..much less burn and a little larger leaves.

It took five years. But I got ripe fruit from it and it was sweet. Like a mild pineapple with banana overtones and the texture of a moist banana.

    Hyophorbe indica 'Red Form'

Oops. They are Bottle Palms. Doing fine for the winter...indoors!

    Lets Talk Curly Boy

Update on Curly Boy over a mild summer. Even mild for us. It still grew. To the right. Next spring? I'm adding StopLight for sure. Crotons here are like Coconut palms, only better for pots!

    Is this "Excellent"?

THANKS! You think its Excellence also? I just bought it at a Florist who didn't know the name either. The looks, the leaves sort of wind on the stem..sounded like Excellence. Nice Melastoma..they should be much more easy to find in California beyond the common related Tibouchina. In the wetter...

    Is this "Excellent"?

I paid a premium price in spring for this semi Oak leafed then greenish Croton at a florist. I never see the Oak/Angel wing/Fiddle leafed/ Crotons for sale locally anymore, been many years. So,I took a chance. It just totally changed colors over the summer- now a burgundy beauty mostly. No name...

    Hyophorbe indica 'Red Form'

I am tentative to say for sure as they were gift seeds from the in laws in Miami and they just know it was a nice looking palm. In their third summer they took off after two summers of tepid Hayward temps. The color wasn't until this summer. Well, one day it will be the only ones in ground. In...

    FICUS RUBY.

Four years ago it was a little plant in a 4" pot at Walmart. It's much more red than the plain variegated, hardier to cold, and much faster growing. One more pot up in size next year. Its in a good spot..not making unneeded shade.

Ficus Ruby is faster, bigger, more colorful and hardier than plain F.e.variegata. Mine grew from a 4" to a 12x12' monster in a pot! For you could be a big topiary at least.
